Wet blasting

The wet blasting process is a technique used to clean and prepare metal surfaces before painting, coating or other finishing processes. In this process, fine abrasive particles, usually sand or glass beads, are mixed with water and then sprayed onto the metal surface under pressure.

Here are some advantages of the wet blasting process:

  1. Protection against dust and particles: Due to mixing with water, abrasive particles are smothered before they become airborne, thus reducing the risk of air pollution and protecting the work environment and operators from exposure to dust and particles.

  2. Uniform Results: Wet blasting provides uniform cleaning and surface preparation, effectively removing contaminants, rust, old paint and other impurities. This ensures optimal adhesion of paint or other surface treatments applied afterwards.

  3. Temperature control and reduced surface heating: The water used in the wet blasting process helps keep the surface temperature lower compared to dry blasting, reducing the risk of thermal warping of parts.

  4. Reducing the risk of part warping: Because the water helps keep the parts cool, the risk of thermal warping or stressing the materials is lower compared to other blasting methods.

  5. Effective in removing heavy contaminants: Wet blasting is effective in removing heavy contaminants and rust without damaging the underlying metal surface.

  6. Reduced cleaning and waste disposal costs: Due to better control of dust and particles, as well as more efficient use of abrasive, wet blasting can reduce the costs associated with cleaning and waste disposal compared to other blasting methods.

These are some of the advantages of the wet blasting process that make it a popular option for cleaning and preparing metal surfaces in a variety of industrial applications, including the automotive, marine and construction industries.
